The key benefits for trainees completing a flexi placement include:
- Broadening their leadership by learning about cultures, systems and ways of working outside of the NHS.

- An opportunity to explore an area of personal or professional interest.
- Achieving competencies.
There are also benefits for the flexi placement organisation which include:
- Working with an ambitious, values-driven trainee to drive improvements in your organisation.
- Networking across your organisation/sector and the NHS.
- No salary cost as the trainee will be paid by GMTS.
- An opportunity for your staff to manage, mentor and coach aspiring leaders.
Below is an overview structure of the trainee’s time on the Scheme and shows when the flexi placement takes place for each specialism.

- Finance trainees complete their Flexi Placement from July to August.

Trainees are employed by NHS Business Services Authority (BSA) and will continue as such during flexi. Trainees undergo pre-employment checks in line with NHS Employment Check Standards including Standard DBS Checks.
You may set trainees up with an honorary contract on flexi, however, please do not ask trainees to sign secondment contracts or agreements as this contradicts their employment contract with NHS BSA.
